Racism and Sexual Harassment Will NOT Be Tolerated!

1)      Racism is defined as “segregation, persecution, and domination.” Note each of these characteristics, as they are diametrically in opposition to the military philosophy of team spirit and unit cohesion. Simply stated, the idea of demeaning someone because of race, looks, social status, or religion is absolutely forbidden by Army policy, and it will NOT be tolerated. As a soldier, you represent the state military. While you are certainly entitled to your own convictions and principles, you are also expected to treat ALL people with dignity and great respect. This does not denote compromise, but rather is just how others ought to be treated. When dealing with others, the Golden Rule is the best policy to render: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

2)    Sexual harassment is defined as “inappropriate, unwelcome, and persistent behavior that is sexual in nature.” This action and attitude is also forbidden under military policy. REPEAT: the action is forbidden. Action of this type is degrading and demeaning, and it undermines the unity and effectiveness of the state military as a whole. Like racism, sexual harassment will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances. Chaplaincy personnel must set the pace in these areas.
