G-8 Summit Guard a Success in Georgia

From 06 June 04 through 11 June 04, Georgia State Defense Force soldiers provided state military service contributing to the overall success of G-8 Summit Guard.

State military personnel were tasked with a variety of duties including providing security for sensitive areas, cooking meals for state and federal military (as well as law enforcement personnel), and assisting with communication and physical support. Additionally, Chaplain Corps personnel offered chapel services in armories, visited with numerous soldiers doing a variety of duties, provided "Soldier Care Packets," prayed and counseled with soldiers, and provided physical support and expertise in preparing meals.

The G-8 Summit was pivotal in the respect that the President of the United States, and numerous heads of other nations were present at Sea Island, Georgia. While these leaders talked, conferred, debated, and discussed, the state military of Georgia was "on duty." Their action provided very professional and necessary support to an "army" of law enforcement officers, federal military personnel, civilian leadership, and others. All of this activity and sacrifice assisted greatly in the overall G-8 Summit Guard quest which was "providing a tranquil and safe scene" from which world affairs could be transacted peacefully.
